Matthew Petersen / Founder

Seven years of cybersecurity experience—from technical execution to Director-level leadership.

Matthew Petersen's background spans hands-on cybersecurity work, security implementation, incident-response operations, strategic security initiatives, threat coordination, client delivery, and leadership responsibility. That range shaped the idea behind MunchSec: security work should be technically credible, but it also has to survive real priorities, real incidents, real budgets, and real operational constraints.

He currently serves as Director of Cybersecurity North at Network Security Group. MunchSec is an independent business and is not presented as affiliated with or endorsed by his employer.

The MunchSec approach is intentionally direct: understand the objective, get close to the technical reality, establish evidence, communicate clearly, and leave behind an improvement path that somebody can actually own.

What that experience changes

Security is both a technical problem and an execution problem.

MunchSec is built around four habits developed from working across implementation, response, security initiatives, and client-facing delivery.

01

Prove the technical reality.

Do not stop at assumptions or scanner output. Validate what is reachable, exploitable, misconfigured, or operationally fragile.

Evidence first
02

Know who has to act.

Security recommendations become useful when ownership, constraints, dependencies, and decision authority are clear.

Ownership matters
03

Design for pressure.

Incident response exposes weak processes quickly. Readiness work should make the important decisions easier before the situation becomes urgent.

Prepare deliberately
04

Communicate across the gap.

Engineers need evidence and reproduction detail. Leadership needs consequences, priorities, dependencies, and clear choices.

One risk, two audiences
05

Follow the work through.

A finding is not closed because a ticket changed status. Validate implementation and confirm the intended security outcome.

Close the loop
06

Keep the engagement useful.

Scope, cadence, reporting, and recommendations should answer the client's actual security question—not just fit a template.

Client-focused delivery
